Long, tall Marcia Ball! Wow! I really don't
know what the cruise would be like without her. She and her band have been
there every year and always turn in some of the best sets of the cruise.
She is one of my favorite artists and I really cannot believe how lucky I
am to be able to see her play and get to know her and the members of her
band. They are some of the most real, down-to-earth people you'd want to
know. And, the only artist fan club I belong to is Marcia's . . . just
a great, enthusiastic group of folks (
Big Shots . . . from Marcia's
tune of the same name) who have a hoopin' and hollerin' good time when Marcia
starts playing. I send a big thank you to Cathie Baker, the prez , the biggest
of Big Shots, for putting it all together. . . and to the Webgator, Page
Hite for the great
Marcia Ball web site
. You should visit and remember to click on the gator!

Marcia's first set on on the pool deck on Monday night was
HOT. It kicked off my favorite night of music for the week
(and that's saying something!) . . . probably one of the best nights
of music I'd heard all year. Marcia started the pool deck rocking at 9 and
the Derailers kept it rolling until after 1 . . . the musical bar was
set rather high that night. Some veteran cruisers said they thought it was
the best night of music they'd heard on board in years. (and that's REALLY
saying something!)
