Rokeach, who wrote the book titled The Nature of Human Values, says there are two kinds of values: "instrumental values" and "terminal values". Instrumental values are basically the kind of personal characteristics that we think highly of. Terminal values are the goals in life that we think are most important and that we feel are most desirable.
